Call for Nominations

EAAE Publication Awards for 2022

You can now submit nominations for the EAAE Research Discovery Award and the Societal Impact award in honour of Giovanni Anania

The Publication Awards Program of the European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) recognizes professional excellence in research contributing to the advancement of knowledge in areas related to food, agricultural, and resource economics.

The Publication Awards Program of the EAAE includes three annual Awards:

  • the Outstanding ERAE Journal Article Award
  • the Research Discovery Award
  • the EAAE Societal Impact Award in honour of Giovanni Anania

For the Outstanding ERAE Journal Article Award, all articles published in the Review in 2021 are automatically eligible. The recipient is selected by the ERAE Editorial Board; there is therefore no formal nomination procedure.

For the Research Discovery Award and the EAAE Societal Impact Award in honour of Giovanni Anania, outstanding publications can be nominated by members of the Association, including self-nominations.

The EAAE is now seeking nominations in the category of the Research Discovery Award for journal articles published in the calendar year 2022. In addition, we are seeking nominations for the EAAE Societal Impact Award in honour of Giovanni Anania for the period 2017-2022. The EAAE encourages you to nominate either your own publication or to nominate your colleagues’ publications.

For the Research Discovery Award and the EAAE Societal Impact Award in honour of Giovanni Anania, nominated publications should be in the English language and can enter the selection process only if at least one of the authors is a member of the EAAE before the deadline for nominations. Members of the EAAE Awards Committee or the EAAE board are not eligible. The Publication Awards Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the nominated and eligible publications for both categories.

The Award recipients are proposed by the Publication Awards Selection Committee to the EAAE board.  Recipients of Awards will be presented at the next EAAE triennial Congress in Rennes, 2023.

EAAE President

Articles available online in their final form on the journal’s web page, for which the 2022 issue in which they will appear is unequivocally known are eligible for the Award, even if the issue has not been published in print yet. A maximum of one Award is given.

The nomination procedure is as follows:

  • Send by email both, your own contact details (as in your business card) and the article in pdf that you wish to nominate;
  • All nominations will be scored on several criteria including relevance, quality, originality, societal impact;
  • Send nominations to the Secretary-General of the Association (eaae@wur.nl) by the 31st of March 2023.
  • Members of the current Publication Awards Selection Committee or the EAAE board (see below) are not eligible to be nominated for an Award.

The EAAE Societal Impact Award in honour of Giovanni Anania

This Award recognizes an outstanding publication that has used results from research to provide value for society. The publication has to show a demonstrable impact on society, by contributing at least to a:

  • change in policy or,
  • change in business practice or,
  • change in discourse,

which was incentivised by, or can be related to the research. The impact can be evidenced by direct exploitation of results and/or through researchers playing an active role in ensuring stakeholders effectively use the results.

The purpose of the Award is to recognize both research excellence as well as the potential to address relevant societal challenges from a broad perspective (e.g. stakeholders, policymakers, consumers). Members can nominate their own publication or the publication of another EAAE member. The price can be awarded to a scientific journal article, book, or book chapter, that has been published between 2017 and 2022. The date of the publication is that of the volume in which the article is published. The Award is granted once per three years.

The potential candidates should include in their application:

  • the quality of the publication,
  • the activities conducted to generate societal impact,
  • the evidence for the societal impact itself (i.e. change in policy, business practice, and discourse). Authors should provide verifiable examples of how their research results have benefitted society.

The nomination procedure for the EAAE Societal Impact Award in honour of Giovanni Anania is:

  • Send by email both, your own contact details (as in your business card) and the article in pdf that you wish to nominate;
  • All nominations will be scored on (1) the quality of the publication, (2) activities conducted to generate societal impact, and (3) evidence for societal impact;
  • Send nominations to the Secretary-General of the Association (eaae@wur.nl) by the 31st of March 2023.
  • Members of the current Publication Awards Selection Committee or the EAAE board (see below) are not eligible to be nominated for an Award.
